2 minute album promo cut

Here's a little promo cut I put together for onliness v1.0.1. It's about
2 minutes long and contains snippets of about 10 tracks.
I used  the del.icio.us flash mp3 player/tagger just to experiment with
this whole social bookmarking thing.

onliness v1.0.1 is Open Source Music (OSM). All sounds and program data created by demon doc are available here as a free download.

The source files available for download contain loops, one-shots, hits, phrases (*.wav format) in addition to MIDI files (*.mid) and Reason Files (*.rsn) for all 21 tracks on the album. Most of the tracks were primarily sketched out in Reason using a Korg Triton proX 88 and an MPC 60, then brought into Digital Performer, added to and mixed, and finally polished, mixed again and then mastered in Pro Tools. Real-time mach ups in Ableton Live.Biggup Jimmy Mullen for polish and mastering – his  credits include Large Professor, Nas, and Interpol amongst others.

why am I giving away this album for free?

why free, you ask? why  do I encourage sharing?
why do I give free access to the source files?

I have put serious time (4 years) and money (gear, studio, mastering, pressing) into this project, but
making money (or even recouping my investment) has never been the inspiration behind my music. It has always been a combination of experience, feeling, instinct and influences thereof that drive me to create.  I try to respect this as a gift. Music is a language. It exists to passed down, spoken, shared, modified, recycled and honored. Accordingly, I  have chosen to give away my album for free, make $ contribution a choice, and thereby push  open source music distribution.  This is all in the name of gaining wider audience, sharing, learning, collaborating and just seeing what happens.

From a less philosophical point of view, onliness v1.0.1 is free because:
 

Open Source Music: Definition & Background

“Who owns the alphabet?”

I.Definition

onliness v1.0.1 is  released as Open Source Music (OSM). demon doc defines OSM as any musical composition(s) where the copyright owner:

1. gives the music to the People for free as MP3 downloads at a resolution of the copyright owners choice
2. allows the People to share the music with anyone they choose to
3. permits the People to sample the music via a creative commons sampling license of copyright owners choice
4. makes the source elements that constitute the music available to the People as free downloads, including recordings’samples/loops/one shots and MIDI data and any,. Audio files should be provided in .wav or .aiff format and the copyright owner may choose to provide additional program-specific formats.
5. requires that samplists distribute their own works as OSM, if they have incorporated any elements of the music in their own works.

The goal of defining OSM is to work towards standardizing format and copyright that serve as a guide  for releasing music  as open source. This is demon doc's rendition - augmentation, criticism, debate and revision are welcomed and encouraged.
